Day 18 (2-8-10)

Posted in Atlanta - City Life with tags , , on February 9, 2010 by purplesnowflake

Back in Atlanta today.

Not sure what church this is. We turned before I ever drove by it.

It looks like – if you kept driving you would run right into it – but the road goes around it instead.

Day 12 (01-26-10)

So I’m wondering….should I start over? Keep going? Maybe rename the blog???

I think the word “sporadic” may apply here. Oy!

I don’t even have a good excuse this time – I just haven’t been remembering to take the photos.

:-(

Anywhoo…moving forward I guess…

Was back in Atlanta on Tuesday. Lots of traffic and it was hard to get a shot, so I snapped this one while waiting for the light to change.

The buildings are somehow part of Piedmont Hospital.  It appears from the names on them – that the money to build them must have been given by the Woodruff family.

If you don’t know who they are — they are the ones who started Coca Cola! They are quite the philanthropists and you see their name on a lot of the hospital stuff and also the Woodruff Art Center.

This, of course, makes me wonder — what would it be like to have so much money that you could just give it away? I bet it is a NICE feeling, but I bet there is a lot of responsibility that comes with that too. Still…even if it IS a burden – I would love to give it a try! :-)

Day 7 (01-12-10)

Taken from inside the Chik-Fil-A across the street, this is the Sheffield building – which is right next to Piedmont Hospital.

My allergist has an office in this building, but we were in Atlanta because my Dad had a test done with his doctor – who is also near Piedmont.

The blue on the building is small blue tiles, like you use to see in swimming pools. Very unusual architecture for Atlanta.

Day 149

BuckheadThis is about as downtown Buckhead (Atlanta) as it gets.

The road we are waiting to cross is Peachtree Street.

There is a joke that Peachtree Street runs north, south, east and west in Atlanta…and it is almost true. Every other road seems to have the word Peachtree in it…and a lot of them seem to be one way. VERY confusing to both travelers and locals at times….

Day 138

BuckheadMy Dad had to return to the dentist (who made the “plate” Dad has been wearing since surgery) today for a check-up.

I wimped out because of the rain today and went the way I use to drive when I went to the airport.

On Weds and Thu I was in Atlanta, but it was right near the ATLANTA airport….so close in face — you could see the planes taking off and coming in to land at Hartsfield.

Today’s visit was to downtown Atlanta. This section of Atlanta is called Buckhead….and unfortunately…I don’t know what building this is….just that we came to a red light and I had a great shot of it right in front of me! :-)

Day 137

Do not adjust your set....Another one of those shots that looks great on the camera phone, but NOT so much when you send it to the computer….

Oh, well…it is this….or a picture of some of my friends from the Summit….

This was one of the rooms we wre meeting in. Quite a few times — they had one meeting in Room A and another in Room B…. I’m thinking…this is Room B….

Great conference by the way! Couldn’t believe it was so close to the house.

Really enjoyed it….hopefully will get to attend another one some other year! :-)

Day 136

pic-a-day7John Lawson and David White.

Okay…I prefer not to photograph people….it’s just never been my thing….

BUT…on Weds and Thur I attended the eCommerce Summit in Atlanta….and since we are recording MY 365 days in Georgia….I guess this is part of it.

I’m still learning how the radio shows online work….but if I am correct….John Lawson does a show called Colder Ice and Dave White hosts a radio program (and I’m thinking maybe it is an actual online radio station(???) called EBay & Beyond.

Anyway…eventually I’ll figure all of this out….meanwhile…I’ll just say — these are two really great guys and John has more energy in a single moment….than I do for an entire day!

Day 131

pic-a-day8Couldn’t take the picture I wanted to take because the light was green and I was still moving at the time.

There was a Cessna 172 that had just taken off from Peachtree-Dekalb Airport (PDK) right below where you see the clouds – very low — would have made a great shot, but just couldn’t take it and drive too!

Brought back fond memories of some of my flights out of there! (PDK is the airport I use to fly out of).

Anyway – Dad had a follow-up appointment today, so back in Atlanta. My Dad likes to make EARLY appointments (yawn)….so very little sleep last night because I was too worried I would oversleep…(I am soooo not a morning person!)

Early night tonight I think….getting hard to stay awake! ;-)

Day 115 – Monday

A room with a view...Took this shot while waiting for my Dad to get discharged from the hospital so he could go home.

This was the view he would have had from the window — IF his bed had been facing it.

We got lucky…no rain on the way home….but those clouds did eventually produce some showers later that night!

School Of MedicineThought my mother needed a break from sitting in the hospital room, so we went for a walk outside and around the hospital.

This is one of the buildings where they teach medicine. The right wing is the Physiology department and the left was the Anatomy department. I think the section in the middle just said “School of medicine” or maybe “Emory Medicine”.

The chairs in front were being set up for graduation on Monday.
